Karnataka Drugs Control Department to recruit 100 new drug inspectors

Karnataka Drugs Control Department has requested the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, (MoHFW) Government of India, to sanction the appointment of 100 new drug inspectors within the state. The approval for the same is expected within the next two to three days. The full fledged procedure is likely to be completed in next three months.

Revealing details on the appointment of new drug inspectors, Dr Bharatesh Jagashetty, Drug Controller, Karnataka state said, “Currently we have 51 drug inspectors in the state. We have requested the Ministry to approve the appointment of 100 new drug inspectors and allot the funds accordingly.”

Jagashetty added, “The Ministry has almost agreed to our suggested proposal and within the next two to three days, we shall receive approval.”

In addition to the lack of serving drug inspectors, the state had to recently suspend the services of two senior officers as well as three other staff as they were found guilty of accepting bribes.

“We are also reorganising the department structure within the next three months. Also, we are in the process of adopting e-governance in the system,” Jagashetty added.
