Dr Swati Piramal, Director, Piramal Healthcare has been honoured with Padma Shri award by Prathiba Patil, President, India, at a glittering ceremony which was recently held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Piramal has been acknowledged for her exceptional and distinguished contribution to the field of trade and industry.
On receiving the award, Piramal said, “Throughout my career I have worked towards bringing down the burden of disease and democratising healthcare. I have worked towards positively influencing public policy in the healthcare and life-sciences domain. I would like to express my gratitude to the Government of India for recognising my contribution in the field of science, medicine, research and development. I dedicate this award to all my women colleagues. I hope the award motivates every woman in the country to fulfill her dreams.”
Piramal is a scientist and has made an immense contribution in innovations in Public Health Services and projects that have touched thousands of lives. Her impact on public policy related to healthcare has led to major policy changes that help reduce the burden of disease. She has a Medical Degree from the University of Bombay, a diploma in Industrial Medicine and a Masters’ in Public Health from Harvard University, US.
She currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board of both the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard Business School. Her impact on public policy related to healthcare has led to major policy changes that help reduce the burden of disease.
