The Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka under the guidance of Vision Group on Nanotechnology led by Prof CNR Rao, FRS, National Research Professor; Linus Pauling Research Professor; President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) has announced that the 5th edition of Bangalore Nano event will be held on December 6 7 at Hotel The Lalit Ashok, Bangalore.
The event will feature an exhibition and conference sessions addressed by internationally acclaimed speakers and experts discussing a range of issues pertaining to research, technology development, skills requirement, institutions involved, risks issues, regulatory and governance structure, investment and collaborations between academia, R&D & Industry. Bangalore Nano 2012 will also feature a Pre-Conference Tutorial Session on December 5, 2012 for the delegates which will offer a quick preview on the fundamentals to nanofabrication – a major growth area in nanotechnology for India.
ISN Prasad, IAS – Principal Secretary to Government, Dept of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, said, “Nanotechnology is one of the most important technologies in the last decade which has made great inroads in crucial areas for the betterment of mankind. Major benefits of nanotechnology include improved manufacturing methods, water purification systems, energy conservation systems, cosmetology, nanomedicine, better food production methods for nutritious foods and large scale infrastructure pre-fabrication. The healthcare, environment, energy, agriculture, ICT, engineering and consumer goods sectors will see a radical change with the applications of nanotechnology.”
“Bangalore Nano has enabled experts, scientists, researchers, industry and start-ups to meet and exchange notes on tomorrow’s nanotechnology. The annual event will be a congregation of academia, research and industry featuring inspiring talks, high-quality research papers and a platform to showcase innovative and ground breaking nano-applications. India and more specifically Karnataka will be a major influencer in the field of Nanotechnology in the next couple of years” he said.
“The ‘Nano Mission’ of Government of India will bring about a sea of change and opportunities for Indian and multi-national companies to invest in nanotechnology. India’s strength in core technology and biotechnology will be a major factor for the growth of nanotechnology. Along with appropriate policies and government support, nanotechnology will blossom in India.” he added.
The event will see participation of chief scientific officers, policy makers, directors, heads of organisations, scientists, chemists, research leaders/ fellows/ advisors from industry, government and research institutions. The focus areas of Bangalore Nano 2012 are – business opportunities in nanotechnology, healthcare and medicine, aerospace and defence, electronics and nems, food and agriculture, energy and environment and water management / solutions and advanced materials. Over hundred leading international and Indian companies are expected to participate in Bangalore Nano 2012. International delegations are expected from the US, UK, Japan and Australia for the event.
Bangalore Nano National Award will be presented during the event to a distinguished personality for significant achievements in the field of nanotechnology. The selection would be done by a special jury under the chairmanship of Prof CNR Rao. The previous recipients of the award have been Prof CNR Rao in 2007, Prof Dipankar Chakravorty in 2008, Prof Ajay K Sood in 2009 and Dr G Sundararajan in 2011.
India Nanotech Innovation Award was for the first time instituted in the previous edition. This significant Award recognises the nanotechnology enabled innovations in areas like medicine, electronics, materials, agriculture and biotech by an organisation / individual which would bring in path breaking change in the nanotech sector. In 2011 edition, the award was conferred upon Panacea Biotech. Entries are invited for India Nanotech Innovation Award.
A special programme ‘Nano for the Young’ will be organised where students from various engineering, medical & Bio-Tech colleges across Bangalore can attend the session. Over 450 graduate students are expected to attend this exciting session.
Bangalore Nano 2012 will feature a ´Poster Session´ providing a unique opportunity for scientists and researchers to share their innovations and research in nanoscience and nanotechnology with industry, research institutes and venture capitalists. Over 110 posters are expected to be displayed, out of which three best poster displays will be awarded during the event.
This year’s event will also feature the programme ‘Research Industry Collaboration Hub’ (RICH) offering unique partnering opportunities for showcasing innovations in nanotechnology. RICH will facilitate podium presentations and one-to-one meetings for emerging entrepreneurs in nanotechnology. Applications are invited from startups in the field to make presentations about nanotechnology innovations that are commercially viable in the RICH Programme.
