The minister appreciate the involvement of the practitioners of various AYUSH systems of medicine including Unani medicine
The government is fully committed to the all-round development of Unani medicine as well as other Indian systems of medicine. According to a PIB release, Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) and Health & Family Welfare was addressing at the foundation stone laying ceremony of new hospital block, inauguration of upgraded biomedical laboratory and guest house, at Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine, in Hyderabad recently.
Naik said that the Unani medicine is recognised in the National Health Policy as one of the Indian Systems of Medicine and finds an important place in the country’s healthcare delivery organization. India is the world leader in Unani medicine having a wide and very well organised and functional network of educational, healthcare, research and pharmaceutical institutions, he stated.
Naik also said that CRIUM, Hyderabad is one of the major centres functioning under Central Council for Research In Unani Medicine (CCRUM), an autonomous organisation of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The minister said during the past 36 years, the council has achieved some important landmarks in its various research programmes and has emerged as the leading research institution in the field of Unani medicine. The CCRUM has entered into collaboration with some leading scientific institutions, like Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), Delhi, and Deccan Medical College (DMC), Hyderabad.
Naik said that the government is actively promoting the development and promotion of the Traditional Systems of Medicine like Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha. One of the important initiatives in this direction has been to mainstream AYUSH systems of medicine in the healthcare under the National Health Mission (NHM).
The minister appreciated the involvement of the practitioners of various AYUSH systems of medicine including Unani medicine, to promote these systems nationally, and to provide essential healthcare to the people.
Also present on the occasion were Health and Medical Minister, Government of Telangana, Charlakola Laxma Reddy and officials of CCRUM.
