GSBTM to award biotech entrepreneurs

Biotechnopreneur Programme Awards will be followed by DBT sponsored workshops at Ahmedabad

Gujarat will award some of the best incubatees of this year’s Biotechnopreneur Programme at an Awards function on July 6. The programme will be held at St Laurn Towers, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad.

The Biotechnopreneur Programme was started in 2011 as a platform for budding entrepreneurs, researchers and students to understand various aspects of entrepreneurship in the biotechnology industry.

Besides Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM) under the aegis of the Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat, Biotechnopreneur Camp 2011 was supported by Gujarat Venture Finance Limited (GVFL) and Foundation for MSME Clusters (FMC) along with SkyQuest Technology Consulting as the knowledge partner. The Camp this year focussed on life sciences, medical devices, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

After it was decided that awarding the best incubatees could prove inspirational for other aspiring biotechpreneurs, a panel of judges judged which participants qualified for the awards. The award function aims to bring all aspiring biotech entrepreneurs on a single platform, seek their inputs, as well as mentor start-ups on various aspects.

The awards ceremony on the morning of July 6 will be followed by the first of two day-long workshops, organised by Biotech Consortium India Ltd (BCIL) in association with GSBTM under the aegis of the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) programme of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

The workshops titled ‘How to write an effective grant proposal’ and ‘Strategic management of intellectual property in biotech industry’ will be held at St Laurn Towers, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad on July 6 & 7 respectively.

The workshop aims to sensitise entrepreneurs, start-ups and academia in the biotech industry on the various government support systems available. Issues to be covered include writing an effective grant proposal for industry innovation research on Day 1 (July 6) and on Day 2 (July 7) the effective use and management of intellectual property tools; strategic management of IP assets, their protection, enforcement, commercialisation and management.

GSBTM invites participation from professionals in the biotech industry, especially those in strategic planning, IPR, R&D departments, as well as a limited number of academia representatives like faculty members, scientists and researchers.
