Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi has been given the additional charge of the Ministry of Science & Technology, as well as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Ravi was first given additional charge of this portfolio in early August due to the ill health of Vilasrao Deshmukh. Deshmukh died on August 14 due to multiple organ failure.
Taking charge, Ravi elaborated on the importance of science and technology in the growth of the nation and the importance placed on science and technology by the past and present Prime Ministers of our country. He expressed confidence in the capability of Indian scientists.
Ravi further said that scientists shall continue with their good work without any intervention from the Ministry. The Ministry will always provide the fullest support to the scientists in their endeavour. He said that the Indian scientists would continue to make their mark in the international arena in the field of science and technology.
