0 118

British Medical Journal (BMJ) will launch its India website in Mumbai soon. This is its first country-specific website outside the UK. Dr Fiona Godlee, Editor in Chief, BMJ, Dr Anita Jain, India Editor, BMJ and Tim Brooks, CEO, BMJ Group, will be in Mumbai for the launch, which will be attended by the British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, Peter Beckingham.

The launch of the web site is in response to the Planning Commission’s announcement of the expansion of health care throughout India in its 12th Five Year Plan, to meet the long-term objective of universal health coverage. BMJ aims to improve healthcare and make a qualitative difference to clinical medical practice worldwide and concentrates on supporting evidence-based medicine. BMJ.com/India will have content such as medical news, comment, research and education that will be directly relevant to doctors practicing in India.

BMJ is published by the BMJ Publishing Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the British Medical Association. It is an international peer reviewed medical journal and a fully ‘online first’ publication. All the BMJ’s original research is published in full on bmj.com, with open access. Its ‘continuous publication’ model means that all articles appear on bmj.com before being included in an issue of its print journal. The website is updated daily with the BMJ’s latest original research, education, news, and comment articles, as well as podcasts, videos, and blogs.

The print edition of BMJ has been published without interruption since 1840, when it began as the Provincial Medical and Surgical Journal. Its weekly circulation now totals about 122,000 copies. International editions reach another 55,000 readers.
