expression CMS – Compact Mass Spectrometer Launched in India
The Expression CMS (Compact Mass Spectrometer) system was launched in India on Sunday the 22nd April 2012. Mr David Patteson, the President and CEO of Advion Inc, USA presented the expression CMS Mass Spectrometer and explained the unique features and shared his thoughts on the Indian market and plans for the future.
Chemists wanting to conduct routine mass confirmations and reaction monitoring need access to a better suite of tools than TLC plates and UV detectors. This has been an under-served group by Mass Spec vendors because the available kits have been too large and too expensive to utilize the power of MS.
Advion would like to address and change this situation with novel options that will play a meaningful role in enhancing workflows and the future of chemistry. The Expression CMS system is one such option available
Post launch of the expression CMS system at Pittcon in March 2012 , the inbound demand for the CMS has been exceptional
The early stage(discovery research) and later stage (API production) of the CRO industry has been geographically displaced in the last decade. Outsourcing in pharma is here to stay, and India/China leads the way. Advion therefore considers India as a very important market that will contribute significantly to the progress of the company.
There are many line extensions planned for the CMS family, and the corporate DNA in Advion is to always make solutions small and performance high. UPLC will be adopted more widely as the ideal marriage partner for MS in routine applications. Protein/Peptide Quant has emerged as the ideal partner for challenging peptide and protein discovery and quantitation. For routine chemistry solutions, MPLC/LC/SFC will be the best partner. Advion solution is placed ideally to integrate in all of these environments.
The expression CMS is being launched to serve the discovery chemistry segment as a more personal Mass Spec in the lab. It is a high performance MS, which is half the size and much less expensive than conventional MS units. And it integrates well with any chromatography system or can be used as a stand alone Flow Injection walk-up system. This product is truly exciting and changes the way MS is used in synthetic chemistry on any scale. In an academic environment, it can also be used as a teaching tool for undergraduates while supporting research -an unparalleled utility.
Advion has the following in which investments are made
- Ion Sources for the most demanding applications – Nano Electrospray Ionization sources that enhance the performance characteristic of > 40 Mass Specs from vendors as diverse as Thermo, Sciex, Waters, Bruker and even Leco. A new ion source “ Chip-Mate “ for high end applications will be launched very soon”.
- Microfluidic flow synthesis systems for clinical diagnostics of cancer and neurologic diseases.
- Provide tools to chemists to monitor reactions and mass confirm their hundreds of normal phase chromatography fractions which naturally lead to their next synthetic steps – or better yet – their next breakthrough.
- food, environmental, petroleum and other applications due to the price and size of the small Mass Spec.
