On July 1st – Doctor’s Day, a large smiley spreading across 1218.99 sq feet was created at JJ Hospital, Mumbai to commemorate the role of Doctors in bringing ‘smiles’ to the lives of countless patients. The smiley was created with 66,311 bottles of an expectorant brand from Glenmark; all of which will be donated to 32 Government Hospitals across the country. This will help in providing relief to thousands of less-privileged patients visiting these government hospitals during the monsoon season when cough, cold and other illnesses are on a rise.

This ‘smiley’ structure also entered the Guinness World Records by being the globe’s largest mosaic created through arrangement of pet bottles. The initiative was spearheaded by Glenmark; a research led global integrated pharma company in association with JJ Hospital. The event was attended by leading doctors from across the city, select patients and officials from Glenmark.

A nationwide study conducted by Glenmark across major government hospitals in the country, revealed that there was a significant increase in cases of cough, cold and other illness in these hospitals during the monsoon season. The study showed that there is an approximately 25 per cent rise in such cases during the rainy season. This promoted Glenmark to do its bit for the less-privileged sections of the society by donating its expectorant brand to leading government hospitals, where they come for treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr T P Lahane, Dean of JJ Hospital, Mumbai said, “Every year during monsoon, JJ Hospital witnesses about 25 per cent increase in the number of the patients suffering from cold, cough, influenza and other related symptoms. These conditions need to be given immediate medical attention early on or else it might escalate into possible life threatening diseases like pneumonia. On the occasion of Doctor’s Day, JJ Hospital is happy to be partnering Glenmark in this nationwide initiate of spreading smiles to thousands of less-privileged patients”

Sujesh Vasudevan, Executive Vice President – Glenmark Pharmaceuticals said, “On the occasion of Doctor’s Day, we not only wanted to thank all doctors for their invaluable contribution to the society; but also wanted to do something meaningful for the less privileged sections of the society. Being a leading player in the respiratory segment, we are happy to provide relief and touch the lives of around 70 000 less-privileged patients across the country during monsoon season, when cough and cold cases are on the rise.” He added “We are also delighted to create a new Guinness World Record through this endeavour.”

Fortuna Burke, Adjudicator, Guinness World Records said, “It was a fantastically well organised Guinness World Records title attempt. We were happy to see thousands and thousands of bottles so precisely placed and creating the image of a smiley. Guinness World Records is pleased to be here in Mumbai to recognise Glenmark as an official Guinness World Records breaker. Glenmark Pharmaceutical is officially amazing.

Apart from JJ Hospital, Mumbai; Glenmark will be donating bottles of its expectorant brand to Government Hospitals in major cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Nagpur, Chandigarh, Pune and other locations.
