March ’12 hiring activity six per cent higher than previous year
But drops nine per cent from previous month according to the Naukri Job Speak Index
The pharmaceutical sector’s hiring activity in March 2012 has been six per cent higher than what it was a year ago. However, an analysis of month-on- month growth shows sluggishness on the hiring front with the March 2012 hiring levels being nine per cent lower than February 2012 levels. This is primarily due to the end of fourth quarter and appraisal season picking up. Tracking the hiring levels for the past six months, Naukri.com analysts point out that February has been the best month in terms of recruitment. Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad, the cities with maximum pharma jobs, have also shown dips in hiring activity within the range of two per cent and six per cent respectively in March 2012 when compared to the previous month.
Hitesh Oberoi, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Info Edge India said, “Hiring trends to slow down by the end of quarter one every year because of the appraisal cycle. We expect hiring to pick up again by June/July this year.”
Methodology: The Naukri Job Speak index is on the basis of job listings added to the site every month. To calculate the index, job listings added to the site in July 2008 have been taken as 1,000. The subsequent months have been indexed with data of July 2008. The monthly report shows hiring trends across industry sectors, geography and functional areas. There might be high volatility for certain fringe cases like smaller cities, niche industries etc. owing to a small base, but more than 42,000 clients using Naukri.com leads to high reliability of the data.
