QAI conducts first internal auditor training for biobanking
Accreditation of biobanks would facilitate harmonisation of practices among biobanks, researchers and other parties including regulators, governments and drug development organisations, QAI said
In continuation of its journey of quality and safety in biobanking, Quality and Accreditation Institute (QAI) conducted the first internal auditor training course from 28th to 30th May, 2021, as per the international standard “ISO 20387: Biobanking- General Requirements for Biobanking.”
This training would help biobank professionals to understand the requirements of ISO 20387 and build capacity to carry out internal audits in order to create awareness and capacity building for biobanks, according to a statement released by QAI.
The statement said, “Accreditation of biobanks would facilitate harmonisation of practices among biobanks, researchers and other parties including regulators, governments and drug development organisations. It would also enhance credibility and give confidence to the users of biological material.”
Further, it notified that senior officials and scientists from both public and private biobanks and members of the QAI Technical Committee attended the training. These participants were from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)- National Bureau of Fish Generic Resources, ICAR-National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, ICAR-National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, National Liver Disease Biobank, Sapien Biosciences, Keerai Kadai Ventures Pvt Ltd and Sperm Processor Private Limited.
