Quintiles has ranked 6th in this year’s InformationWeek 500, a list of the top technology innovators in the US. The annual list was revealed at a recently held awards ceremony in Dana Point, CA.

The driving factor behind this year’s InformationWeek 500 ranking was Quintiles’ collaboration with Eli Lilly on an IT-enabled project to re-engineer the way clinical trials are planned and designed. The ultimate goal of this collaboration was to develop an integrated approach that eliminates costly inefficiencies and uses “big data” to drive better drug development decisions.

InformationWeek identifies and honours the nation’s most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing, and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. The listing spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.

Jeff Kasher, Vice President, global clinical development, Eli Lilly, says, “The collaboration with Quintiles has yielded a solution which has positively impacted Lilly’s ability to conduct clinical trials. To maximise success, full blown disruptive change was encouraged because we knew incremental change wouldn’t cut it. I can’t imagine a partner other than Quintiles who could have made this a reality.”

Richard Thomas, Chief Information Officer, Quintiles says his team is proud to be recognised as one of the leading technology innovators across all industries. “It is truly a team effort at Quintiles, and in a world without borders. This award highlights that we have been able to create something very special in collaboration with one of our key customers, which will have a profound effect on clinical research going forward. Looking ahead, the healthcare industry we serve has many formidable problems to solve. Receiving this award adds to our momentum, reinforcing the critical and ever more urgent nature of the work we carry out at Quintiles.”
