Seminar on ‘Environment, Hazard and Waste Management in Pharmaceutical Industries’ held at NIPER

A one-day seminar on ‘Environment , Hazard and Waste Management in Pharmaceutical Industry’ was recently held at Small and Medium Pharmaceutical Industry Centre (SMPIC), National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), SAS Nagar, Mohali, Punjab. More than 60 participants from academia and industry participated in the deliberations. The seminar covered topics like ‘environment laws and regulatory requirements’, ‘safety management’, ‘disaster management and fire fighting’, ‘waste management and treatment technologies in pharmaceutical industries’, ‘air/water pollution and waste management’ and ‘generating wealth from waste.’

Prof KK Bhutani, Director, NIPER stated that science revolves around ‘E’ Energy, Environment, Eco System and E-governance. While addressing the seminar, he mentioned that SMPIC is playing a major role in the growth of pharma industry, not only in Punjab but across India through its activities. Small and medium industries play a critical role in overall healthcare system, by providing affordable medicines. He appealed that more companies should take advantages of SMPIC.
Earlier Prof Arvind Bansal, Chairman, SMPIC,briefed about the activities of SMPIC. Jagdeep Singh and Ramesh Arora, members of Advisory Board of SMPIC, were also present during the seminar.
